This PULSE wireless stereo headset – Elite Edition model is far superior in every way than its previous models. The headset itself looks and feels like a well-made, high-quality product.

People’s favorite feature has to be the BassImpact technology incorporated in this PS3 gaming headset. Compared to other similar products that claim to enhance the sound with a bass boost, Sony’s BassImpact is so different. The way it adds vibration to the whole experience, makes the sound feel natural and almost life-like.

PULSE wireless stereo headset - Elite Edition was released on October 1, 2012. Since then it's been one of the most bought accessory in the PlayStation 3 accessories sub-category on Amazon. It currently stands in #3 place in the Sony PSP category, and frankly I can see why.

Every gamer's dream is to enjoy a hi-fidelity surround sound experience while playing his favorite game on the PS3 console. The optimized preset modes and quick access controls make this headset the perfect choice for hardcore gamers.

Pros:
  • Features new-age BassImpact technology for gamers
  • On-screen headset status updates function
Cons:
  • Terrible documatation
  • Mini-USB cable not included (uses the one included with the PS3 console)

PULSE wireless stereo headset - Elite Edition is equipped with a hidden noise-cancelling microphone which will keep you in crystal-clear communication condition at all times. Some say to be a little sensitive and pick up everything in the room, personally I haven't experienced that, nor did other reviewers and audio tech lovers. Anyway, the mic hidden in the ear-cup is a welcomed feature in my book. The BassImpact triggered pulses are also a nice touch. Along with the preset modes for every major game genre, these pulses deliver a full in game immersion. And the hi-fidelity 7.1 Virtual surround sound makes you completely aware of everything that's happening around you in the game's scenario.

Even though there are controls for everything, some functions only work with the PS3, such as the fader for Sound to Voice balance slider and Mic Mute, Mode and VSS On/Off push-buttons. The controls are placed on the ear pads, which can make it hard to adjust to your personal preference while in game, until getting used to it. The fully closed ear cups provide a decent sound isolation, eliminating any external noise source almost entirely. As for comfort, these are not the worst I've tested, nor the best, but definitely more than just average; when used for a couple of hours the cups tend to get a little sweaty. The headband has nothing original or new-age added to it; this is equipped with an old-fashion pull-out size adjustment system.

The SONY PULSE wireless stereo headset - Elite Edition can also be used with a 3.5 mm conductor cable as a wired headset. Perfect for use with mobile devices such as the iPhone which looks to have a volume memory function for it. Comes packed with a wireless dongle, which can be used as a standalone wireless transmitter; a feature I find useless for gamers, yet very cool.

I can definitely see myself using these headset while playing on the PS3 or PS Vita gaming consoles. Although not the best gaming headset on the market, it's certainly better than the previous version and I think many gamers will praise it from now on. The only regret I have about the PULSE wireless stereo headset - Elite Edition is that I didn't get my hands on it earlier, a quality-price ratio rarely seen in gaming console headsets. Worth every penny so far.
