First of all let me tell that I have always found the “For Dummies” series title a little bit bold. As much as I don’t like being called a ‘dummy’, I would have to admit they have some fantastic resources for entry-level enthusiasts or students in almost any field you can imagine. And although the amount of information you can find online today is more than enough to guide you through the process of learning anything actually, the “For Dummies” series is something I very often check when I get into something I’m not familiar with.

I would like to start by telling you a little bit about the authors of Home Theater For Dummies. Danny Briere is CEO of mBlast and founder and CEO of TeleChoice, Inc. He’s a really respected analyst on communications news and breakthroughs. Pat Hurley is Director of Research with TeleChoice, specializing in emerging telecommunications technologies.

They are also coauthors of all editions of Smart Homes For Dummies.

The Home Theater For Dummies has been available since around 2008, and this is its 3rd edition. It has a print size of 408 pages. And the basic idea of this guide is to show you how you can plan a home theater system that will fit your budget and home.

This book is perfect for entry-level home audio equipment enthusiasts, as well as for video equipment. Home Theater For Dummies will help you choose components and everything else you need and how to put it all together.

The overwhelm with all home theater audio system options and big screen TVs offers coming from left and right is the main purpose of this guide. As a mid-level enthusiast I have to say this would have saved me ages (and a lot of money) if I would have read it sooner. The begins with the up most basic information you need. As the chapters move forward you will learn how to choose what you need and eventually put it all together. The book explains DLP, 3LCD, HDMI, DTV, and HDTV so you will be able to talk with salespeople at the electronics store in your best interest. You’ll even find out about Blu-ray, HD and satellite radio options; and you'll also learn how to incorporate a Nintendo Wii, Xbox, or Playstation gaming console into your home theater set-up.

One thing that even audiophiles and seasoned veterans in the audio equipment field can get out of this is how to setup and adjust the more technical settings to get the most out of a home theater system. Overall a good book that will take you from the most basic information about each and every component and technical specification of a home theater system to some advanced-level of knowledge in each of those topics. If you're considering to invest in such a project, the money you invest in this book will be money well spent.
